A local celebration of artisan cheese at the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market is happening on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the City Plaza area located in the 400 block of Fayetteville Street. If you’re a melty, gooey, tasty kind of grilled cheese diner, this event is for you!
The fifth annual Grilled Cheese Cook-off will feature downtown Raleigh chefs, local cheese vendors, and a chance to win market bucks by purchasing “featured cheese products” from specialty local vendors like Hillsborough Cheese Company and Orrman’s Cheese Shop.
Also important, visitors will get the chance to sample sandwiches from the competing Downtown Raleigh chefs as they duke it out and put their own spin on the classic grilled cheese!
2015 Cheese Champ Chef Clay McClinnham from Jimmy V’s Osteria + Bar will defend his title against:
Chef Michael Rigot, Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen
Chef Amanda Haisley, Buku
Chef Andrew Klamar, Linus and Pepper’s
Chef Gregg Hamm, P.G. Werth’s
Come hungry, because sandwiches will also be for sale by American Meltdown and enjoy the live music by Urban Soil Trio. As always, local farmers, ranchers, nurserymen, bakers, and specialty food producers will be selling their products at the Market.
